Saint Joseph, MI – Today, Dr. Sherry O’Donnell, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate and winner of the latest straw poll, announced her plan to clean up DC politics and restore the dignity of the Senate.
“Every week, we see another news report about an elected official benefitting from insider trading or taking gold bars. What sort of message are we sending to our children when serving in office seems to be the gateway to enriching oneself? Long gone are the days of a true public servant. As the next Senator, I am going to sanitize the Senate. No more position profiting,” said O’Donnell.
O’Donnell’s plan to Sanitize the Senate:
✓ Term limiting Senate members to 2 terms.
✓ End insider trading on legislation by requiring Senators and their spouses to put their personal finances in a blind trust.
✓ Prohibiting Senatorial special perks.
✓ Require Senators to join the same pension system as all other federal employees.
✓ Prohibit immediate family members from being paid federal lobbyists and serving on foreign corporate boards.
“Over 40 members of Congress invested in big pharma as the pandemic broke. We have a Senator who was taking payments from foreign governments. Other Senators are investing in industries governed by the committees they sit on. This is not the vision our founding fathers had for our nation. We solve this problem by limiting terms and prohibiting profiteering,” said O’Donnell.
“When DC enacts bad legislation like Obamacare, Senators should not be exempt. They need to live by the legislation they pass,” added O’Donnell.
“It is quite disturbing how members of Congress have profited off of being elected. Many times their family members are making huge salaries from companies or foreign countries that want the access. We need to stop the selling of the Senate. I will have the courage to take on the status quo in DC,” said O’Donnell.
